This essential training addresses the difficult realities of cyberbullying, sextortion, online radicalization, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Drawing from SST case files and data-driven best practices, participants will learn the tools and knowledge to identify and support vulnerable youth, understand the impact of these concerns, and develop proactive prevention and intervention strategies. Due to the complex nature of cyberbullying, sextortion, radicalization, and the role of AI, a unique approach is needed for S/TA Teams to identify worrisome behavior(s) with early risk-reducing interventions and support victims most effectively.

This training will include:

  • Identifying worrisome online behavior(s) and the psychological impact on youth
  • Recognizing and assessing the warning signs: how to identify and support individuals who have engaged in and/or have experienced cyberbullying, sextortion, and radicalization using digital behavioral baseline indicators and language shifts
  • Common digital platforms (gaming and social media apps) and their role in sextortion, as well as the recruitment and normalization of extremist content
  • Defining extremism and radicalization within the context of school safety and threat-related behaviors
  • Recognizing how meme culture, influencer extremism, and algorithmic recommendation systems facilitate exposure to harmful ideologies
  • Applying multidisciplinary approaches to intervention planning and management for Subjects of Concern
  • Learn actionable steps to support victims and prevent further harm
  • Learn to effectively respond to worrisome AI use, including AI-generated sexualized imagery without consent
  • Current tools for identifying AI-generated sexualized imagery and protecting against privacy violations
  • The importance of staying connected with High-Risk and Vulnerable Youth (HRVY) and assessing changes in their behavioral baselines
  • Trauma-informed practice: what is trauma, and how does it impact youth?
  • How to design and strengthen school codes of conduct
  • Criteria for program selection and implementation (i.e., social-emotional learning)
  • The relationship between school culture/climate and school safety
