Ensuring school safety is a top priority for educators and administrators. In the event of a critical incident, what should you consider for your Critical Incident Response and school memory events/memorials? Adopting a trauma-informed perspective is essential.

The Managing Memorials session offers a snapshot of the full-day Critical Incident Response Training (CIRT), and focuses on clarifying what constitutes a critical incident in schools, how to initially respond both in person and digitally, and best practices for memorials from a trauma-informed lens.

This training will include:

  • What constitutes a Critical Incident Response and how it differs from other school and district responses
  • The importance of climate and culture
  • The key pieces to confirming a critical incident event
  • Themes connected to digital responses to critical incidents
  • Wise practice for school memory events
  • The pros and cons of various memorial models
  • Trauma-informed considerations for presentations and memorials
