Scott Rothermel is currently the Safe School Coordinator for the Kootenay Lake School District #8 and is a trainer for Safer Schools Together. Previously, he was the Safe School Coordinator for the Sooke School District #62. As a police officer for the past 12 years, his last 10 years have been spent working with youth and in specific youth-related programs.
The role of the Safe School Coordinator provides V.T.R.A., C.I.R.T., crime prevention, education, investigation, and mediation between school staff, students and parents within the school environment. It is also a role that engages with outside agencies like RCMP, M.C.F.D. and Interior Health. Scott is currently enrolled in the Masters of Conflict Analysis and Management program at Royal Roads University. Scott supports the belief that while youth make up only 20% of our population, they are 100% our future.
